Certificate of Award for Attendance
A Certificate of Award from Colored School Number 2
This Certificate of Award for "being present at school every day" was given to student Artimishia V. Holloway in 1922. Signed by her teacher and the superintendent, this certificate came from the faculty of Colored School Number 2, the one-room schoolhouse that existed at the site of the Excelsior High School, now the Lincolnville Museum and Culture Center. Colored School Number 2, the first public Black school in St. Johns Country would eventually be replaced by Excelsior and other schools, as the growing Black population of Lincolnville required larger facilities. Item donated by Thomas Jackson.
