Title

Affidavit [Charles Vaness]
The soldier was 46 years old, residing in Palatka, Florida in Putnam County. He entered the service in December 1862 as the United States Colored Troops, Infantry, Co. A, 33rd, Regiment as a Private. He would have been 17 or 18 at the time of the enlistment. The soldier was discharged at Morris Island, South Carolina January 1, 1866. The soldier was mistakenly documented as re enlisted into the military service. May 26, 1891 a notary stated that the soldier claims that he did not re enlist or serve in the service of the U.S. army or navy since 1866. In the application it is stated that Charles Veness is a member of the 23rd Regiment it was a mistake of the office that withdrew the soldier's application. The soldier states that he was a soldier in company A. 33rd Regiment and not 23. This was a mistake made by the officer who withdrew his application. At the soldier's time in the service Captain Parker was commander of the soldier's said company.
