Description
In this virtual program created for the St. Johns County Public Library System's social media pages, Beth Maycumber visits the historic Ximenez-Fatio House Museum in downtown St. Augustine. Beth met with the museum’s director Dr. Roger Smith and archivist and curator Taryn Rodriguez-Boette to learn more about the long history of this coquina structure built in 1798 and owned and managed by the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Florida since 1939. She glimpsed the museum’s new exhibit, “I Lived Here, As Well”: The African American History of Our Home, that examines what life was like for African American slaves and servants living invisibly to guests in the boardinghouse throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
