'That I am well acquainted with the claimant Clarissa King and all her family and have been for over 50 years. We were also neighbors all this time. The said claimant was married to deceased soldier, Plato King in slavery by the master of them, and in year 1863 was married over by Rev. Kennedy, a chaplain of the 9th marine regiment. I was a witness to the ceremony and I got married at the same time and place on the 15th day of January 1863 also know that Plato King her husband is dead. He died August 10, 1892 and I further know that she is without means of support other than her labor and she is so old and feeble that she can do but little of labor, she being 89 years old. She had only a lot on which she lives and has no income of money. She has not remarried since the death of her husband Plato and he nor her were ever married before until they married each other.’
