Subject

I Lived Here, As Well: Documenting Enslaved People and Servants at the Ximenez-Fatio House

Description

We have documented slavery specific to this house through this exhibition. We hope to bring a fuller understanding to our audience of the lives of the people who lived here. The exhibition features images, written descriptions, and an interpretive reproduction of a servant’s hall. The museum has chosen to document the lives of the enslaved in the house, because without their voices, our historical presentation is incomplete. To fully interpret the history of the house, it is vital that their stories are also told.
